Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports. This course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia.
This training is a blended format meaning all participants must complete a 2-hour online self-paced pre-work in order to attend the in-person training on June 23rd.
Mental Health First Aid is included on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
Participants who complete the full course will secure a three-year certification. This training is also eligible for one external rebate credit for Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council members and individuals enrolled in other safety councils.
The training will be led by Montgomery County ADAMHS.
This course is limited to 30 participants. Registration will close on June 2nd or when the course is full. Contact Sydney Ryan (sryan@dacc.org) if you would like to be added to the course waitlist.
