The Procurement Access Series: Session III May 2026

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (EDT)

Description

The Dayton Region Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC), in collaboration with the Human Relations Council (HRC) and sponsored by IBROC, proudly presents the final installment of the Procurement Access Series; a practical and engaging session designed to help small businesses strengthen their positioning for procurement opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

This third session will focus on one of the most essential business development and procurement tools for any company seeking contracts and strategic partnerships: the Capability Statement.

Whether you are pursuing government contracts, subcontracting relationships or corporate partnerships, your capability statement often serves as the first impression of your business. This session will provide business owners with a comprehensive overview of what a capability statement is, why it matters and how it can directly impact your ability to compete in today’s procurement environment.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • The purpose and strategic importance of a capability statement
  • What information should be included in a professional capability statement
  • How your capability statement communicates your company’s story, value proposition and differentiators
  • The importance of NAICS, UNSPSC and NIGP codes in procurement positioning
  • Common mistakes businesses make when developing capability statements
  • How to tailor your capability statement for various contracting opportunities and industries

Following the educational session, attendees will participate in a dynamic procurement panel discussion focused on opportunities within the goods and services and professional services markets. Panelists will provide insight into what buyers and procurement professionals look for when evaluating vendors, how businesses can better position themselves for opportunities and practical strategies for building relationships and increasing competitiveness within procurement pipelines.

This session is ideal for small businesses, minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, veteran-owned businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to expand their understanding of procurement readiness and strengthen their ability to pursue contracting opportunities with confidence.
