Topic: Preventing Slip/Trip/Fall injuries in the workplace.

This 1 hour webinar will discuss the hazards associated with a leading cause for injuries in the work place – Slip/Trip/Falls -- and various methods of preventing those types of injuries from occurring.

We welcome John Valentine as the presenter. John began working with CareworksComp in January of 2016. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and has completed the coursework requirements for the Industrial Hygiene Masters program at West Virginia University. He began his career as an Industrial Hygiene and Safety intern with Zachry Engineering at various industrial construction site locations from Texas to Kentucky. John then accepted a position as an Industrial Hygienist at Marathon Petroleum. During this time, he had the opportunity to work at various refineries, develop training materials for sampling methodology and equipment use, assess employee chemical exposures, and implement controls to reduce and eliminate exposures. John was also chosen to serve as the lead industrial hygienist and safety support professional during the shutdown maintenance project of a biodiesel refinery during this time which involved overseeing the safety of over 300 contractors and employees.

Following this, John was the on-site safety coordinator responsible for the safety of 200 employees during the construction of a major pipeline project in Southwestern Pennsylvania. John developed and maintained safety training materials, addressed safety concerns, conducted safety meetings, incident investigations, audits, and inspections. During his time on the pipeline John implemented a major safety culture change for the employer in order to improve employee involvement and accountability to reduce incidents and claim rates.

John is now based in Phoenix, Arizona and has a book of business which includes construction, healthcare, and manufacturing clients of all sizes from 41 states and 5 countries. He assists employers on projects such as safety and health supervision & facilitation, audits, safety orientation and training, development of safety policies/programs/procedures, OSHA compliance, incident investigation and development & implementation of corrective actions. John works with employers to implement all aspects of their safety process in order to reduce the overall frequency and severity of injuries and claims and their associated costs. Since November of 2016 John has also been working globally as an SME to consult with and train employers on the use of Fall Protection and Confined Space systems in addition to his usual book of work.

In March of 2017 John was awarded the York Risk Services National Kudos award for going above and beyond with his actions that prevented a devastating tragedy by evacuating employees and helping to diffuse a threatening situation on a client’s jobsite involving an armed intruder.
