This month's Professional Development event will focus on an introduction to the importance of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) in the workplace. Mr. Michael Carter\, Chief Diversity Officer for Sinclair Community College\, will lead us in a discussion and workshop on how young professionals can have an impact on the D&I efforts in their organizations. Topics will include Equality vs. Equity\, putting Diversity & Inclusion policies into practice\, and how to navigate D&I related challenges in the workplace.Michael Carter was appointed by President Johnson in 2015 as Senior Advisor to the President and Chief Diversity Officer\, having previously served as Sinclair's first Superintendent of the Division of School and Community Partnerships where he was the driver for the dramatic increase of college credit options for high school students. Over his 17 year career at Sinclair\, Michael served as Senior Vice President\, Senior Director of High School Linkages\, and Director of the Fast Forward Center (a nationally recognized model in dropout recovery).The National Conference for Community & Justice (NCCJ) awarded Michael the 2018 Humanitarian Mentorship Award for his commitment to mentoring/empowering emerging leaders\, as well as\, using his voice and efforts to bring about social and economic change in the community. A former public school teacher\, administrator and coach\, Michael has over 36 years of experience working with youth.
