    As a director with Auman, Mahan & Furry, Gary Auman concentrates his practice on occupational safety and health law and workers’ compensation defense. With 40 years of experience, Gary is a noted authority and staunch management advocate in workers’ compensation and occupational safety and health law. He regularly writes on occupational safety and health law for a number of trade publications. In addition, he is a frequent speaker on occupational safety and health topics at seminars and conferences throughout the United States. Gary represents both small and large companies and is general counsel to several national and regional trade associations. Gary is a staunch management advocate and defends employers across the United States. Gary has been recognized by a number of associations, including the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was volunteer of the year in 2004. In 2002, Gary was honored by the National Safety Council when he received its Distinguished Service to Safety Award. This is the highest individual honor that can be bestowed by the National Safety Council. Gary received the Smith-Moore Award from the United Way of Greater Dayton in 2013 to recognize his dedication and commitment to that organization. In 2013, he received the Bernon G. Perkins Award from the National Frame Building Association for his efforts to promote safety in that industry. On June 18, 2014, Gary received the William R. Heaston Outstanding Member Award from the Midwest Insulation Contractors Association for his service to the industry. This is the first time in the award’s history it was presented to a non-member. In April 2015, Gary was awarded the President’s Award by the National Insulation Association. In 2016, Gary was awarded the Gene Demeter Safety Achievement Award by Allied Construction Industries and in 2022 he was recognized by the Midwest Roofing Contractor Association for their Naphis Mitchell-Reyes Safety Professional Award. Gary received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville. He received his law degree, graduating summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University College of Law. Gary served in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973.

    Helen Jones-Kelley serves as the Executive Director of the Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board. Helen leads Montgomery County’s efforts to provide treatment and supportive services to residents and their families managing mental health and substance use disorder challenges. Helen also leads prevention efforts to reach adults and children with information and resources to help prevent a mental health or substance use crisis. Helen’s passion for children and families was the driving force behind her tenure as executive director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Montgomery County Job and Family Services. To show how dangerous electricity can be, AES Ohio’s 'Safety 101' demonstration uses rather shocking illustrations involving utility poles with working wiring, insulators, and transformers — a downsized version of the high-voltage equipment the audience sees every day. The demonstration includes controlled interruptions of the flow of electricity, causing a surge of sparks and pops along with valuable safety tips. The 'Safety 101' demonstration is a powerful and effective way to convey the dangers of electricity to various audiences. AES Ohio’s safety 101 teaches audiences — in a visual, and entertaining way: how electricity is produced, how to use it safely, the dangers of not using or being near electricity safely, and what can happen if you don’t. The presentation is led by experienced utility workers in full protective gear, who vividly explain why humans are involuntary conductors of electricity. The team demonstrates the effects of electricity on inanimate objects like mylar balloons which is an informative way to educate various audiences about the potential dangers of electricity. Throughout each demonstration, the team explains to the audience the interactive elements, encourages asking questions and opportunities for discussion. By combining realistic simulations with informative safety tips, the 'Safety 101' demonstration effectively educates audiences about the dangers of electricity and empowers them to take proactive steps to stay safe in their daily lives.
