CANCELLED: Generation Dayton Professional Development

Tuesday, February 27, 2018 (5:30 PM - 7:30 PM) (EST)

Description

The non-partisan Dayton League of Women Voters was founded in May 1920, just months after formation of the National League of Women Voters, and passage of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote. Since then, the League has continued to educate both women and men on the political issues that affect their lives, and to advocate for voting rights and accountable government at all levels.

Many Americans express frustration about low voter turnout rates, which have declined steadily since the 1960s among all demographics. The purpose of this forum is to consider the following questions:

  • What, if anything, should be done to increase voter participation?
  • What are the key elements of a “healthy democracy”?

This forum is particularly interested in engaging voters from the Millennial generation to gain an understanding as to how to increase the rate of voting participation with that age group. The forum will also discuss overall voting trends specific to the Greater Dayton Area.
